WE USE BOTOX, JEAVOU & XENOMIN BOTULINS (NEUROMODULATORS)
BOTULINS / NEUROMODULATORS: BOTOX® COSMETIC (ONABOTULINUMTOXINA)
XEOMIN® (INCOBOTULINUMTOXINA)
JEUVEAU (PRONOUNCED JŪ-VŌ).
WHAT IS JEUVEAU?
Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is a highly purified form of botulinum toxin A, the same “active ingredient” in Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin. Similar to Botox, Jeuveau is composed of the same 900 kDa protein but undergoes a different purification and drying process termed Hi-Pure technology.
IS JEUVEAU AVAILABLE IN THE US?
Yes. Jeuveau was FDA-approved in February 2019 for injection of facial muscles to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
WHAT MAKES JEUVEAU DIFFERENT FROM BOTOX?
Jeuveau was designed and positioned to be a premium competitor to Botox. In clinical studies, Jeuveau was found to soften the appearance of frown lines as well as Botox. This is called a “non-superiority” study. Jeuveau is different from Botox in that it undergoes a different purification process, as well as a different drying process. The vacuum drying process of Jeuveau has been shown to not damage the botulinum toxin protein. Therefore, it is theoretically possible that Jeuveau may have better potency to other wrinkles relaxers, aka neuromodulators.
WHERE CAN JEUVEAU BE INJECTED?
Jeuveau is FDA-approved on label for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Similar to Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, Jeuveau can be injected “off-label” by skilled physicians to treat unwanted wrinkles and overactive muscles over many areas of the face and neck. These include forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines of the nose, wrinkles around the mouth, the lip flip, gummy smile, pebbly chin (peau d’orange), and neck bands (platysmal bands).
JEUVEAU INJECTIONS FAQ
IS JEUVEAU SAFE?
Yes. Jeuveau has been study over 5 clinical studies that included over 2100 patients. Two large-scale FDA-trials were required to demonstrate that Jeuveau was both safe and works for frown lines. Botulinum toxin type A products have been used for cosmetic treatment of facial wrinkles in millions of patients for nearly two decades.
WHAT IS THE JEUVEAU INJECTION PROCEDURE LIKE? IS IT PAINFUL?
The Jeuveau injection procedure is quick, easy, and painless and should be similar to past experiences with Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin injections. Dr. Glowacki utilizes techniques and equipment to create minimal discomfort during the procedure. A typical injection session with Jeuveau lasts only a few minutes.
Can I Use Jeuveau if I have only had Botox or Dysport in the Past?
Yes. There is no limitation to patients that have used other products to try out Jeuveau. It is likely that results will be quite similar although individual variability is possible.
Are Results from Jeuveau Seen Immediately?
No. Although some individuals may notice wrinkle relaxation within the first 24 to 48 hours, most patients see full effect from Jeuveau within 4 to 7 days following the injection procedure.
How long does Jeuveau last? Does Jeuveau last longer than Botox or Dysport?
Jeuveau has a comparable duration to other neuromodulators such as Botox. Typical results last 3-4 months.
What is the possible downtime and side effects following Jeuveau treatment?
There is typically no downtime following treatment with Jeuveau. In terms of side effects, the product labeling is similar to that of Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin. Most patients have no side effects following treatment and Jeuveau like other toxins are deemed very safe by the FDA. The most common side effects are bruising, swelling, or pain at the site of Jeuveau injection. A small chance of headache, around 10%, is possible, but this is actually lower than patients receiving placebo (no Jeuveau) during the FDA-clinical trial. Like other neuromodulators, Jeuveau can have very rare side effects such as but not limited to eyelid drooping, difficulty swallowing, strained speech, or difficulty breathing.
Who should not use Jeuveau?
Limitations or contraindications to Jeuveau are the same as for that of Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin. Individuals with an allergy to any part of Jeuveau or botulinum toxin type A treatment should not use Jeuveau. Patients with certain neuromuscular conditions such as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, Lambert-Eaton syndrome and myasthenia gravis should avoid use. Jeuveau should not be injected in an area of active skin inflammation or infection. Alert your physician to any medications you may be taking as rarely some may cause interactions with the effect of Jeuveau.
Can I use Jeuveau with other procedures?
Yes, Jeuveau can be combined with other procedures, occasionally on the same day. Some injectable filler treatments can be combined with toxin treatment. However, generally NuFaceGlow recommends that light, laser, microneedling, chemical peels and other skin procedures be performed at a separate visit.
How much does Jeuveau cost and how much do I need?
Prices for Jeuveau are comparable to Botox but vary by provider. At NuFaceGlow, patients are charged based on the amount of Jeuveau they receive. The strength of muscle movement and desired areas of treatment will determine the cost of the procedure. As the degree of improvement and effect of Jeuveau is highly dependent on the injector’s experience and understanding of the product,
ABOUT THE TREATMENT
Botulin is an amazing product that helps to restore and refresh your natural beauty. It works by targeting your muscles of expression, relaxing them, and diminishing the appearance of unwanted lines and furrows, produced by age, stress, and worry. They quickly fade or disappear resulting in a more rested and refreshed appearance.
Facial expressions are how we communicate with the world, how we reflect our feelings and emotions. As we age, visible lines and wrinkles naturally form. Botulin injections temporarily block signals to the facial muscles to correct wrinkles, smooth appearance and even prevent the formation of new wrinkles. Botox injections are not intended to eliminate facial expression; rather they prevent facial grimaces and frowns that have become unintended habits.
THE PROCEDURE
The procedure delivered by specialist of NuFaceGlow in Long Island is quick and causes only minor, temporary discomfort. A small, thin needle is used to inject botulin into the small facial muscles. The most common side effects are swelling and bruising at the injection site, which will usually resolve within 48 hours. You can resume normal activities immediately and will be advised to avoid lying down for four hours after the procedure. And you must not rub the area for 24 hours to avoid unwanted side effects. You will receive instructions for post-injection care. It may take 5-7 days for results to appear and up to two weeks for the full results to be visible. You’ll be strutting with a renewed confidence in no time.
Toxin has long-lasting positive effects for 3-4 months and wears off slowly. Keeping up with injections on a regular basis, before lines and wrinkles reappear, trains the treated muscles to contract less often so that lines appear smoother. The duration of botulin is typically 3 months, although the effect may vary from one person to another. Botulin used in highly active muscle groups such as crow’s feet around the eyes or for vertical lip lines around the mouth may wear away more quickly. Treatment of neck bands may yield pleasing results for up to 4-5 months or longer in some patients. Botulin used for hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) of the underarm can last 6 months or longer.
CONSIDERATIONS
When lines and wrinkles are apparent, but the surrounding areas have become smoother after botulin injection you may become more aware of those wrinkles that were not treated.
